Several prominent members of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo State have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing President Bola Tinubu’s performance and the achievements of his administration.

The defectors announced their defection when they visited the APC state secretariat in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Tuesday. They were received by the Oyo State APC Chairman, Chief Moses Adeyemo.

The SDP candidate for Oluyole State Constituency in the 2023 general elections, Mogaji Saheed Oyewale, who led the former SDP members, said their decision to join the APC was motivated by their desire to contribute to the realisation of President Bola Tinubu’s vision for a better Nigeria.

He said they appreciated what he described as the good work of the president and believed that joining the APC would enable them to contribute to the administration’s success.

Oyewale also claimed that more prominent SDP members would soon join the APC, assuring that the defectors would work with the ruling party to secure a strong victory in the 2027 elections.

Among those who joined the APC is the party’s chairmanship candidate in the 2024 local government election, David Arowolo.

Other defectors include the SDP Chairman in Oluyole Local Government Area, Ganiyu Lawal; Secretary, Adetunji Adewale; Women Leader, Taiwo Lasisi; Youth Leader, Muritala Jeje; and Public Relations Officer, Afeez Agbongbon.

Also joining the APC are members of the SDP local government and ward executive committees from the 10 electoral wards in Oluyole Local Government Area.
