Oyo Senator, Kola Balogun joins APC after dumping PDP

The Senator representing Oyo South Senatorial District, Senator Kola Balogun has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

WesternPost had earlier reported that Balogun resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

While being received at the state secretariat of the APC in Oke Ado, Ibadan on Tuesday, Balogun who is the younger brother of the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Lekan Balogun, described it as homecoming.

He accused Governor Seyi Makinde and the PDP of serving their personal interests.

“I didn’t defect; I came back home. They are serving their personal interest and not the interest of the masses. There are security breaches across the state.

“Who uses diesel to power street lights in the 21st century if not that they are serving their own personal interest,” Balogun said.

He also thanked members of the party’s state working committee and national working committee for giving him the opportunity to come back “home”.

Welcoming Balogun to the APC, State Chairman of the party, Isaac Omodewu said the party was ready to defeat the PDP and return to power in Oyo State.

“Yes we have misunderstanding within ourselves in APC but we have resolved all the issues and there is no more crisis. We are united and by the grace of God, we are returning to Agodi Government House in 2023.

“I have tried. We now have the three Senators in Oyo State in our fold. On behalf of President Muhammadu Buhari and the national leadership of the party, I welcome Senator Balogun into APC,” Omodewu said.

Balogun was the only PDP senator in the state after defeating then governor, late Abiola Ajimobi at the polls before dumping the party over irreconcilable differences with Makinde.
