Oyo set to lead Nigeria’s Agricultural revolution — Commissioner

By Adejayan Gbenga –

The Oyo State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Olasunkanmi Olaleye, has said the state is well-positioned to become Nigeria’s leading agricultural powerhouse.

Speaking during a ministerial press briefing at the Governor’s Briefing Room, Secretariat, Ibadan, on Thursday, Olaleye noted that the current administration has rolled out transformative programmes to boost agricultural productivity and support rural farmers.

He praised Governor Seyi Makinde’s leadership for creating an enabling environment through strategic investments and supportive policies that have driven agricultural progress in the state.

“Under the Governor’s progressive leadership, our ministry has recorded unprecedented successes across all sectors of agricultural development,” Olaleye stated.

He added that the state has made significant gains in veterinary services and rural infrastructure, citing the vaccination of 95,948 cattle against Anthrax and CBPP — achieving 80% of the Ministry’s 2025 target.

Olaleye stressed that the accomplishments were the result of a clear leadership vision combined with professional dedication and active community involvement.

He also highlighted the government’s rural infrastructure programme, which has delivered 87.53 kilometres of strategic road projects across several local government areas to improve access to markets and reduce post-harvest losses.

“With Governor Makinde’s leadership and the unwavering dedication of our partners, Oyo State is on course to becoming Nigeria’s leading agricultural powerhouse,” the commissioner declared.
