Preparations for the 50th anniversary of Oyo State have officially begun as the Oyo @50 Celebrations Committee, chaired by Hon. Saheed Akinade-Fijabi, announced the launch of a logo, theme, and mascot design challenge to mark the golden jubilee.
Speaking during the announcement in Ibadan, Fijabi said the contest aims to engage the creativity of Oyo citizens in designing symbols that best represent the state’s journey, identity, and aspirations over the past five decades.
“This celebration belongs to every indigene and resident of Oyo State,” he said. “We want designs and ideas that speak to our unity, resilience, and pride as a people.”
He explained that the competition is open to professionals, students, and enthusiasts in art, design, and related fields. Entries will be judged on creativity, originality, and relevance to Oyo’s cultural and developmental story.
The chairman added that the Oyo @50 anniversary will feature a series of events, including exhibitions, parades, public lectures, and community development initiatives, leading up to the grand celebration in 2026.
According to Fijabi, the committee is determined to ensure that the celebration reflects both the achievements of the state and the vision for its future.
“Oyo has come a long way in the last 50 years, and this milestone is an opportunity to celebrate our progress and reaffirm our collective hope for a greater future,” he stated.
He also called on individuals, organizations, and corporate bodies to support and participate in the planned activities to make the golden jubilee a memorable one.
