The Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OYOSUBEB) has confirmed the killing of a teacher and the abduction of pupils following an attack on schools in Ahoro-Esinele community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

In a statement issued by its chairman, Nureni Adeniran, the Board described the incident, which affected LA School, Ahoro-Esinele, and Community Grammar School, Ahoro-Esinele, as a tragic development for the state’s education sector.

It said the exact number of abducted pupils has not yet been confirmed, as security agencies continue search and rescue operations in the area.

The Executive Chairman of OYOSUBEB, Dr Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, said the Board is working closely with security agencies and the Ministry of Education to ensure the safe return of the abducted pupils.

He added that a tactical response team has been deployed, with ongoing intelligence and operational efforts focused on rescuing the victims and restoring calm in the community.

As a precautionary measure, the Board directed all primary schools in neighbouring LGAs, including Surulere, Oyo East, Oriire and Olorunsogo, to shut down temporarily until further notice.

OYOSUBEB appealed for calm, urging parents and residents to avoid spreading unverified information while security operations continue.

The Board also condoled with the family of the slain teacher, describing him as a dedicated education worker whose service to the state will be remembered.
