OYRTMA issues traffic alert over Polytechnic Ibadan protest

The Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority (OYRTMA) has issued a traffic advisory to guide motorists following the ongoing protest by students of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, over the renaming of the institution to Omololu Olunloyo Polytechnic.

In a statement released on Tuesday, OYRTMA said the advisory became necessary to prevent motorists from being caught in prolonged gridlock caused by the protest at the institution’s main gate.

According to the agency, the diversion is part of proactive measures by the Oyo State Government to minimise disruption and avoid unnecessary delays for commuters.

“The general public is hereby informed of an ongoing student protest at The Polytechnic Ibadan main gate. The road in front of the school has been temporarily blocked,” the statement read.

Motorists heading towards Eleyele, Apete, Ijokodo, and nearby areas from Sango, and vice versa, are advised to take alternative routes through Dugbe, Mokola, or Ajibode to avoid traffic delays.

“Similarly, road users moving from Sango, Elewure, Awolowo Junction, and the Secretariat underbridge should consider alternative routes as there may be temporary road blockages due to the student protest,” OYRTMA added.
