In response to increasing environmental violations and public health hazards, the Oyo State Government has sealed an industrial facility and a popular lounge in Ibadan.
The State Government has also declared a state of emergency for waste disposal in markets and public places.
The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Architect Abdulmojeed Olawale Mogbojubola, in a statement by the commissioner rfor Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, ordered the sealing of Fountain Manufacturing Company Ltd. in Oluyole, Ibadan, after numerous complaints and petitions from local residents regarding hazardous fumes emitted by the facility.
According to Mogbojubola, the Ministry had for years wadded into the matter, for amicable mediation among residents, but the facility owner had invariably failed to either respond or comply with government directives on the matter and obeying the State environmental laws.
Similarly, Casta De Lounge on Akala Expressway was sealed for dumping waste on the highway median, for refusing to patronize the Government assigned waste collectors.
The lounge was found to be responsible for various environmental offences.
Meanwhile, the commissioner announced that skip bins would be distributed to major markets across the state to discourage indiscriminate refuse dumping.
Speaking during scheduled meeting with heads of markets across the State in the Ministry’s Conference room, Mogbojubola assured that the skip bins would be evenly distributed across all markets and public places.
He however charged the market executives, the “Baba and Iya Lojas” to ensure proactiveness and cleanliness in the markets, to avoid preventable cases of market closure.
While narrating the efforts of the Ministry at promptly evacuating wastes, which he personally supervised, Mogbonjubola reiterated the commitment of government to end indiscriminate refuse dumps in all markets and public places.
