Patient’s relative attacks nurse at Ekiti hospital

By Boye Oyeyemi –
The Chairman of the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) in Ekiti State, Comrade Femi Ajoloko, has condemned the assault on a nurse at the Okemesi General Hospital.
Ajoloko described the incident as an unacceptable act of violence against health workers, expressing concern over what he described as a growing disregard for medical personnel by patients’ relatives.
Although the circumstances surrounding the attack had yet to be established as of press time, the union leader said such actions endangered the safety of health professionals and disrupted healthcare delivery.
He called on security agencies to immediately apprehend the suspect and ensure prosecution to deter similar attacks in health facilities across the state.
Following the incident, health workers at the hospital reportedly withdrew their services on the directive of the JOHESU leadership over safety concerns.
As of the time of filing this report, activities at the hospital had been paralysed, with staff said to have vacated the premises to avoid further threats.
