The Federal Capital Territory’s (FCT) minister, Nyesom Wike, has urged locals to pay their ground rent and taxes so that the FCT Administration can continue to provide essential infrastructure.

Wike said this on Tuesday after an inspection tour of project sites in Abuja.

According to him, “The government needs funding to create essential infrastructure.

“As we have always said to the elites in the FCT – they want roads, they want a good environment, they want streetlights everywhere, but the government does not print money.

“The government needs to tax people and then use that money for the development of the area. So, I will always plead with everybody that they should try as much as they can, to pay their ground rents.”

The minister went on to say that money from taxes, ground rent, and other sources was being used wisely to guarantee that several projects in the federal capital would be completed in time to satisfy the demands of the locals.

He claimed that despite the nation’s economic circumstances, FCTA paid different contractors on time to guarantee the timely completion of ongoing projects.
