PDP asks Lagos Assembly to push for prosecution of Obasa if found wanting

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Lagos Chapter, has called on the State’s Assembly members to push for the investigation and prosecution of the impeached Speaker, Rt (Hon) Mudashiru Obasa by petitioning the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the alleged financial mismanagement.
Speaking with WESTERN POST on Wednesday, the PDP State Publicity Secretary, Hakeem Amode, said the House should furnish the EFCC with needed facts and figures to prosecute the impeached Speaker.
“The State Assembly is constituted by law and they have the right to right to choose who leads them.
“So it is within their right to impeach and to re-elect another lawmaker to lead them. This is their constitutional right. There is standing rule guiding the Lagos State House of Assembly.
“The fact that they have alleged that a fraud has been committed by the former Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa that is what is of concerned to every Lagosian”.
“Our stand is that the lawmakers should petition the EFCC to examine and prosecute Obasa if he is found wanting.
“They should either petition the EFCC. The good thing is that they have asked him to step aside. He should be prosecuted.
“The onus is on them to send necessary documents to the anti-graft agencies. The business of the people and of the state must not suffer because of internal wrangling or issues of APC.
“We don’t want to join issues with anybody. What is of concern to us is a state Assembly that is efficient and stable and does the work of the people.
” Whatever is going on within them should not affect the running of the State Assembly”, said Amode.
It would be recalled that on Monday, Hon. Obasa was impeached by 32 lawmakers as Speaker and unanimously elected Rt (Hon) Mojisola Meranda.
Obasa is a sixth term lawmaker who was elected into the House in 2003 to represent Agege Constituency 1 and got elected as Speaker in 2015, the position he held till January 10, 2025.
