PDP chairmen seek urgent NEC meeting over Appeal Court ruling

State chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have called on the leadership of the party to urgently convene a meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) to address challenges arising from the recent Court of Appeal judgment that nullified the party’s national convention held in Ibadan.
The demand was contained in a communiqué issued by the PDP State Chairmen’s Forum on Tuesday, which urged the party’s Board of Trustees, governors elected on the PDP platform and other key leaders to initiate reconciliation efforts aimed at stabilising the party and restoring unity.
The convention, which was held between November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, was recently nullified by the Court of Appeal, a development the state chairmen said had far-reaching implications for the party.
In the communiqué jointly signed by the forum chairman, Tony Aziegbemi, and the forum secretary, Edward Percy Masha, the state chairmen said they received the judgment with mixed feelings but affirmed their respect for the authority of the judiciary.
They noted that although the nullification of the convention was regrettable, the forum appreciated that the appellate court upheld the suspension of three party members whose actions were said to have contributed to the internal crisis within the PDP.
The chairmen stressed that as custodians of the party’s grassroots structures across the federation, they remained committed to preserving the unity, stability and institutional integrity of the PDP.
They also advised the party’s leadership to continue with the necessary legal processes regarding the judgment while pursuing political solutions that could bring aggrieved stakeholders together.
Governors of Oyo and Bauchi states, Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed, as well as Senator Adolphus Wabara and other national leaders of the party were present at the meeting.
