PDP chieftain Afegbua resigns, to support Tinubu after party snubs Wike for Okowa

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, Kassim Afegbua has announced he will be dumping the party over its choice of Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa as the vice presidential candidate.

Afegbua said this on Thursday while appearing on Arise News show, The Arise Interview.

Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar had earlier on Thursday announced Okowa as his running mate.

The former information commissioner in Edo State said Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike who came second in the PDP presidential primaries was more deserving for the position.

Afegbua said Okowa’s choice was a reward for treachery, noting that the Delta governor had hosted the meeting of the Southern Governors’ Forum in Asaba last year where the governors demanded that the next Nigerian president should be produced by the southern region.

He said though he wouldn’t be joining the All Progressives Congress, he would be supporting its presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu at the presidential election next year.

He had taken a similar stand in Edo in 2020 after the party gave Governor Godwin Obaseki who had just joined from the APC its governorship ticket.
