PDP chieftain Showunmi visits President Tinubu amid defection rumours

Segun Showunmi, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar’s 2023 presidential campaign, spent part of the Eid-el-Kabir holiday with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Showunmi revealed the visit on Sunday evening via his official X account, sharing a photo of himself standing beside the President.

“Sallah Day 3! I spent quality time with the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, @officialABAT GCFR. It was engaging and nostalgic,” he wrote.

The meeting comes at a politically sensitive time, as a wave of defections continues to sweep through opposition parties, including the PDP, with several lawmakers recently crossing over to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The trend has raised concerns within opposition ranks about party unity and their electoral strength ahead of the 2027 general elections.
