The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially declared Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle, popularly known as Don, as its candidate for the forthcoming bye-election in the Ibadan North Federal Constituency, scheduled to hold on August 16, 2025.
Oyekunle emerged unopposed during the ad-hoc delegate congress conducted last Friday at the PDP Secretariat in Ibadan North. The exercise, widely praised for its transparency and orderliness, saw delegates unanimously endorse his candidacy.
In a statement issued shortly after the exercise, titled “A Heart of Gratitude,” Oyekunle expressed deep appreciation to party leaders, delegates, and constituents for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged to represent the constituency with integrity, dedication, and a people-first agenda.
He specially acknowledged the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, whom he described as the pillar of the PDP in the state. Oyekunle commended the governor for his exemplary leadership and for ensuring a free, fair, and credible primary process.
He also lauded the PDP National Working Committee for maintaining professionalism and neutrality throughout the process, as well as the Oyo State chapter of the party for its unwavering support and effective coordination.
“I do not take this opportunity for granted,” he said. “I am immensely grateful to the party and the good people of Ibadan North for their trust and support. Together, we shall build a more progressive and inclusive constituency.”
Oyekunle reaffirmed his commitment to delivering effective representation, legislative accountability, and development-driven initiatives that will benefit the people of Ibadan North.
He concluded his remarks with a note of gratitude: “Thank you, Ibadan North. Thank you, PDP.”
