PDP Governors using hypocrisy, blackmail to hide failures – Civil society group

A civil society group, the Democratic Front (TDF), has accused governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of engaging in hypocrisy and emotional blackmail to deflect attention from their governance failures.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Mallam Danjuma Muhammad, and Secretary, Chief Wale Adedayo, the group condemned the recent call by PDP governors in Asaba, Delta State, urging President Bola Tinubu’s administration to address economic hardship.
TDF described the move as “hypocritical, sarcastic, and a display of executive recklessness”, alleging that the governors were attempting to shift their responsibilities to the federal government despite receiving increased federal allocations.
The group noted that since Tinubu’s administration introduced economic reforms, federal allocations to states have significantly increased.
According to TDF, PDP-controlled states, some of which receive the highest federal allocations, have failed to implement meaningful development projects, particularly in food production, education, and healthcare.
“It is perplexing why these governors, despite a record increase in FAAC allocations, have failed to provide affordable education, improve primary healthcare, or fulfill other campaign promises,” the statement read.
TDF criticized the governors for ignoring their primary responsibilities and instead resorting to political blackmail, stating that their actions insult the intelligence of the electorate.
The group urged state governments to take inspiration from the federal government’s initiatives, including investments in agriculture, livestock development, student financial aid through NELFUND, financial credit programs like CREDICORP, and infrastructure development.
“We challenge these governors to point to any life-changing projects they have initiated in the last 20 months that complement the efforts of the federal government or justify the massive increase in their allocations,” TDF stated.
The organization emphasized that national progress requires contributions from all levels of government and urged state leaders to prioritize governance over political posturing.
