PDP has lost its way in Plateau — APC declares

By Kunle Sanni –
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State has declared that the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has completely lost its structure and leadership in the state, describing it as “a flock of sheep without a shepherd.”
In a statement issued by the Acting Publicity Secretary of the APC, Shittu Bamaiyi, the party said the PDP currently exists only in name, following the expiration of the Chris Hassan-led executive committee on September 27, 2025.
According to the APC, since the expiration of the tenure, the PDP has failed to constitute either a new executive or a caretaker committee to manage its affairs, leaving members “tattered and confused.”
The statement also cited an ongoing leadership tussle between the PDP National Chairman, Amb. Umar Damagum, and the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, as a major source of the party’s internal crisis.
While Damagum reportedly suspended the conduct of the party’s congress in Plateau State, Anyanwu was said to have rejected the decision, arguing that the national chairman lacked the constitutional authority to act without the secretary’s input.
The APC further noted that the dispute has rendered the ₦13 million worth of nomination forms purchased by the Plateau State Government “useless,” since the stipulated submission deadline to the PDP National Secretariat—September 5—had already passed.
“As of today, no aspirant has been able to fill or submit nomination forms because of the confusion and precarious situation the PDP finds itself in on the Plateau,” the APC stated.
The ruling party also pointed to deep divisions within the PDP between supporters of Governor Caleb Mutfwang and former Governor Jonah Jang, who are reportedly at loggerheads over the zoning of the state chairmanship position. While Jang is said to be pushing for the retention of Chris Hassan, the Mutfwang camp is insisting that the position be moved to the southern zone.
