The Interim National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the party’s Board of Trustees have called for a total overhaul of Nigeria’s security architecture, urging the Federal Government to take greater responsibility for protecting lives and property.
The call was made during a condolence visit to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, following the recent abduction of teachers and pupils in Oriire Local Government Area of the state, as well as the killing of teachers in the attack.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Alhaji Kabiru Tanimu Turaki said the situation highlighted the need for urgent reforms in the country’s security system.
He also commended Governor Makinde’s response to the incident, while stressing that blaming state governors alone for security challenges was misplaced, noting that the constitutional responsibility for security lies primarily with the Federal Government.
The PDP leaders further urged authorities to strengthen security measures and improve coordination to prevent further attacks on schools and communities.
