PDP suspends party chairmen of Imo, Abia over alleged anti-party activities

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Forum of State Chairmen has suspended the chairmen of its Imo and Abia chapters over alleged anti-party activities and attempts to undermine preparations for the party’s forthcoming national convention.
The decision, taken at a meeting held on Tuesday at the party’s FCT secretariat in Abuja, was presided over by Edward Percy Masha, acting secretary of the forum. Those affected are Austine Nwachukwu of Imo State and Amah Abraham Nnana of Abia State.
The forum accused the duo of colluding with “external forces” allegedly linked to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to disrupt plans for the national convention scheduled for November 15 and 16.
In a communiqué signed by Tony Aziegbemi, chairman of the forum, and Edward Masha, secretary, the group described the suspended officials’ move to seek a court injunction against the convention as “a betrayal of trust and collective resolve.”
Aziegbemi, who also chairs the Edo State PDP, was confirmed as the new chairman of the forum following the meeting, which deliberated on issues affecting party unity and stability.
The forum condemned what it termed the APC’s “undemocratic and desperate” attempts to pressure PDP governors, lawmakers, and stakeholders into defecting, warning that such conduct threatened the nation’s democratic balance.
It also passed a vote of confidence in the PDP National Working Committee (NWC), the Governors’ Forum, and other statutory organs of the party.
The forum reaffirmed its commitment to working with the party’s leadership to rebuild and reposition the PDP as a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 elections, urging members to remain calm and united amid ongoing political distractions.
