PGF denies reports of Uzodimma’s removal as chairman

The Progressive Governors’ Forum has dismissed reports alleging that Hope Uzodimma was removed as chairman of the body by fellow governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

Reports circulating on Thursday night claimed that about 20 governors took the decision during an extraordinary meeting held in Abuja. The reports further alleged that governors from Ogun State, Bayelsa State and Enugu State attended the meeting.

The development was said to have occurred hours after Uzodimma represented the governors during the submission of President Bola Tinubu’s presidential nomination and expression of interest forms in Abuja.

Reacting to the reports, the Forum described the claims as false and misleading.

In a statement issued by its Director-General, Folorunso Aluko, the PGF said: “The attention of the Progressive Governors Forum has been drawn to a false and misleading report circulating in some media platforms alleging the removal of its Chairman, His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma, CON.”

The Forum added: “For the avoidance of doubt, the Progressive Governors Forum states categorically that the report is entirely false, baseless, and without an iota of truth.”

Denying that any meeting was held to discuss Uzodimma’s removal, the statement further noted: “No meeting of the Forum was held at which any such decision was taken. The PGF Secretariat has no record of, and is not aware of, any resolution removing the Chairman.”

The Forum reaffirmed Uzodimma’s position, stating: “His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma, CON, remains the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum.”
