PHOTO NEWS: Musawa signs MoU on conservation of Sukur cultural landscape

The Honorable Minister of Art, Culture, and the Creative Economy, Hon Hannatu Musawa attended the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on the Conservation and Preservation of the tangible and intangible heritage of Sukur Cultural Landscape at the United States Embassy, Abuja, on Thursday.

Present at the signing were David Greene Chargé d’Affaires, ad interim U.S. Embassy, Abuja, Dr. Salisu Mohammed Lawal Director Centre for Inclusive and Accountable Governance Atiku Institute for Development American University of Nigeria, Professor Kabiru Bala Vice Chancellor Ahmadu Bello University, and Dr. Oluwatoyin Sogbesan, President International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS).

This project is supported by the United States of America through the Ambassador’s Fund, which is anchored by Nigerian National Committee of the International Council on Monuments and Sites in Nigeria (ICOMOS-Nigeria) and the National Commission for Museums and Monuments (NCMM).
The American University of Nigeria, Yola, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, the Sukur Community and the Factum Foundation are key partners.
The project is a 2-year conservation and preservation effort in the Sukur Cultural Landscape, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
These efforts will provide technical assistance to revive threatened traditional cratts, bulld, and strengthen relationships with local and international partners, and address the security, economic, and social stability of the Sukur community, which has been impacted by insurgency and climate change.
