PHOTO NEWS: Olowu hosts Alaafin of Oyo in Abeokuta

The Olowu of Owu Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Oba (Prof.) Saka Adelola Matemilola, on Wednesday, played host to the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, at the Owu Palace in Abeokuta.

The royal visit was marked by traditional displays, cultural pride, and a call for unity among the Yoruba people. The two revered monarchs discussed the importance of peace, collaboration, and the preservation of Yoruba heritage.

In his address, the Olowu expressed delight at the Alaafin’s visit and extended a formal invitation to the forthcoming Odun Omo Olowu Festival, scheduled for October. The annual event draws sons and daughters of Owu from across the globe to celebrate their shared cultural identity in a vibrant showcase of tradition and heritage.

To honour the Alaafin’s presence, the Owu people welcomed him with renditions of the Owu Anthem, traditional drum performances, dancing, and other cultural displays. The atmosphere was filled with pomp and pageantry as dignitaries, kings, and chiefs gathered to receive the visiting monarch.
