PHOTO NEWS: Sanwo-Olu unveils ₦500bn ‘Produce for Lagos’ Guarantee Fund to enhance food security

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Wednesday launched the ‘Produce for Lagos Programme’ alongside a ₦500 billion Offtake Guarantee Fund at the Lagos House, Ikeja. The initiative aims to strengthen food security, reduce post-harvest losses, and stimulate agricultural production across Nigeria.
Governor Sanwo-Olu described Lagos as Nigeria’s largest food mart with a ₦16.14 trillion food economy, noting that the fund would support bulk traders, logistics operators, aggregators, and producers with financing and infrastructure.

As part of the launch, the Governor also commissioned 150 cold and dry trucks to improve food distribution.
Governors Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Mohammed Bago (Niger), Agbu Kefas (Taraba), and Usman Ododo (Kogi) applauded the initiative and pledged collaboration to maximize agricultural output.

Key federal ministers including Bosun Tijani (Digital Economy), Idi Maiha (Livestock), and Doris Aniete (Finance) commended Lagos for its leadership in national food security.
Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, assured military support for the initiative, while Commissioner for Agriculture, Abisola Olusanya, said the programme will stabilise prices and reduce food waste.
Private sector leader Prince S. J. Samuel of Origin Tech Group also pledged support, calling for deeper public-private partnerships.
