Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Chief Bisi Akande, former Senate President Bukola Saraki lead dignitaries which include serving Governors, serving Ministers, former Governors and former Ministers to the 60th birthday lecture of Dr. Kayode Fayemi, former Governor of Ekiti State and launch of his Amandla Institute in Abuja.

The event took place at the Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton Hotel.

Vice President Shettima wrote about the event on his social media pages thus:

“Earlier today, I represented my boss, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, at the Dr. Kayode Fayemi Commemorative Symposium and the launch of the Amandla Institute for Policy and Leadership Advancement.

“The event, themed “Renewing the Pan-African Ideal for the Changing Times: The Policy and Leadership Challenges and Opportunities,” had former South African President Thabo Mbeki as the keynote speaker, with former Head of State Gen. Yakubu Gowon (rtd.) and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, among others, in attendance.

“Delivering the President’s message, I charged African leaders to stop clinging to their old habit of depending on foreign plans, emphasizing that the continent is in dire need of leaders who wield policy as a surgical blade rather than a mere slogan.

“Whatever our differences across the continent, one fact that cannot be eroded by our infighting is that we are in the age of machines. We cannot fight our development dilemma with spears and arrows while the rest of the world is battling the same challenges with missiles and tanks. The world is not waiting for Africa to catch up.”
