President Bola Tinubu has arrived at the Pacifico Yokohama International Conference Centre in Japan to participate in the opening ceremony of the 2025 Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD).

The event brings together African leaders, development partners, and international organisations to discuss strategies for advancing economic growth, trade, and investment across the continent.

Tinubu joined other Heads of Government at the high-level meeting, which is expected to focus on strengthening partnerships between Africa and Japan in key sectors such as infrastructure, technology, energy, and human capital development.

Western Post reported that Tinubu arrived in Tokyo on Monday after a brief stopover in Dubai, as he begins a high-profile international engagement.

The President was received at Haneda Airport by Ambassador Hideo Matsubara, Japan’s Ambassador in Charge of TICAD.

In a statement issued last Wednesday, his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, said Tinubu would be in Yokohama, Japan, where he is scheduled to attend the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) from August 20 to 22.

The conference, themed “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa,” will focus on strategies to drive Africa’s economic transformation, attract private investment, and build a resilient and sustainable continent anchored on peace and human security.

On the sidelines of the summit, President Tinubu is expected to hold bilateral meetings with Japanese leaders and engage top executives of companies with major investments in Nigeria.
