President Bola Tinubu has returned to Abuja after participating in the Africa Heads of State Energy Summit in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The presidential aircraft touched down at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at approximately 7:40 PM on Tuesday evening.

The two-day Summit, jointly hosted by the government of Tanzania, the African Union, the African Development Bank (AfDB), and the World Bank Group, concluded with the adoption of the Dar es Salaam Declaration. The declaration commits African nations to providing electricity access to 300 million people across the continent by 2030.

A key moment of the Summit was the official endorsement of the declaration by heads of state at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre. Leaders from 12 countries, including Nigeria, Chad, Côte d’Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal, Tanzania, and Zambia, pledged their commitment to achieving universal electricity access within the next five years.

The Dar es Salaam Declaration emphasizes the creation of National Energy Compacts, enabling countries to develop specific policy measures and targets to address energy sector challenges in line with their unique circumstances.

President Tinubu, represented by Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to expanding electricity access and driving energy reforms to ensure sustainable and affordable power for all citizens.
