Plateau APC lambasts Atiku over comment on burial of party national chairman’s mother
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State has lambasted former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s attendance at the burial of the late mother of the party’s National Chairman, Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, held in Jos last Saturday.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Acting Publicity Secretary of the Plateau APC, Shittu Bamaiyi, the party said Atiku had “exposed himself to ridicule” by accusing President Tinubu of insensitivity for personally attending the ceremony.
Atiku had faulted the President’s presence at the burial, claiming that Tinubu had never visited Plateau to sympathize with victims of terrorist attacks.
Reacting, the Plateau APC described the former Vice President’s statement as “uninformed, made in bad faith, and aimed at politicizing a private event.” The party noted that Tinubu, as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, has consistently supported efforts to restore peace across Nigeria, including in Plateau State.
According to the statement, “The President gives marching orders to security agencies and provides logistical support to restore peace and order wherever crises erupt. Plateau State has benefited immensely from such support.”
The statement further cited Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s recent remarks acknowledging the President’s backing in the fight against terrorism on the Plateau.
The party argued that if Governor Mutfwang, as the Chief Security Officer of the state, could commend the President for his support, Atiku had no moral ground to criticize the visit.
It emphasized that rather than making political capital out of the burial, what truly matters to the people of Plateau is the continued deployment of more military assets and personnel to decisively confront insurgents.
