PMO visits LAMATA, reviews transport projects, plans

The Parastatals Monitoring Office (PMO) has commended the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) for its transparency and commitment to delivering major transport infrastructure projects in the state.

The PMO team, led by Special Adviser Hon. Babajide Obanikoro, paid a working visit to LAMATA as part of its annual engagement with government agencies.

During the visit, LAMATA’s Managing Director, Engr. Abimbola Akinajo, gave an overview of ongoing and planned projects under the Lagos State Strategic Transport Master Plan (STMP). She noted that two of the six proposed rail lines are already operational, while implementation plans are underway for the Green and Purple Lines.

On road-based transport, Akinajo highlighted the operation of three Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridors, the First and Last Mile (FLM) Bus Scheme, and the Quality Bus Corridors, whose infrastructure is expected to be completed next year.

She further disclosed that LAMATA is transitioning into a multifuel transport regulatory agency. According to her, the authority currently regulates buses powered by petrol, compressed natural gas (CNG), and diesel, while a few electric vehicles are already in service. Plans are also underway to introduce bio-gas-powered buses in the near future.

Hon. Obanikoro praised LAMATA for its efficiency and project delivery, urging the authority to sustain its momentum in transforming public transportation in Lagos State.
