The Osun State Police Command has arrested four persons over alleged conspiracy and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace in Ila-Orangun area of the state.
The suspects were identified as Idris Abubakar, 16; Abubakar Audu, an adult; Ahmed Abubakar, 19; and Mohammed Omotayo, 16.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the arrests followed an incident on February 18, 2026, when an inscription reading “Bandit Today Today” was allegedly written on a wall in the Ajegunle area of Ila-Orangun.
The police said the inscription triggered panic among residents and members of the public in the community and its environs, with some reportedly leaving the area over fears of a possible bandit attack.
The statement said operatives of the State Intelligence Department (SID) swung into action immediately the report was received and, through intelligence gathering and analysis, apprehended the four suspects within the Ila-Orangun axis.
Ojelabi said preliminary investigation revealed that the first suspect allegedly wrote the inscription and admitted to the act, claiming he did so out of ignorance.
The command advised members of the public to shun any act capable of causing panic or apprehension in the state. It also urged residents to go about their lawful businesses, adding that police remain focused on maintaining the peace for which the state has always been known.
