Police arrest man for assault, firearm threat in Abeokuta

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a suspect, Oluwatobiloba Kehinde, for allegedly threatening a resident with a locally made pistol in the Agbena area, Ojere, Abeokuta.
The arrest followed a distress call received by the police on June 28, 2025, from the victim, a male resident of the area, who reported the incident.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola, the incident occurred on June 27, 2025, at about 6:00 p.m., when the victim was returning from a football field and was accosted by Kehinde. The suspect reportedly threatened to “deal with” him if he refused to hand over money.
Odutola explained that the situation escalated when other members of Kehinde’s gang arrived on a motorcycle and joined in assaulting the complainant. The victim managed to escape and fled home.
Shockingly, the suspect later traced the victim to his family house, armed with a locally made pistol, and continued issuing death threats.
“Acting swiftly on the report, operatives of the Command moved in, arrested the suspect, and recovered the locally made firearm used in the threat,” the statement read.
The command assured the public that updates on the case would be provided as investigation progresses.
