The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a man in connection with an attempted murder case and the illegal possession of a firearm in Akure.

The suspect, identified as Oladimeji, was apprehended after a distress call from a woman, Bosede, of Kayode Street, Akure, prompted operatives from the Okuta Elerinla Divisional Police Headquarters to move to the scene.

Police said Oladimeji allegedly assaulted the victim with several punches, bit her left ear, and inflicted multiple injuries on her body. He also reportedly fired a gunshot at her, but the victim escaped unhurt.

A search of the suspect’s residence led to the recovery of an unlicensed single-barrel gun, the command said.

Oladimeji was taken into custody for interrogation, during which he reportedly provided useful information to aid the ongoing investigation.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Adebowale Lawal, warned residents against engaging in violent crimes, saying such acts would attract serious legal consequences.

He reassured the public that the command remains responsive to complaints and is committed to ensuring justice in all cases.

CP Lawal also urged residents to cooperate with the police by providing timely and credible information to help prevent crime and protect lives and property across the state.
