Police arrest robbery suspect, recover stolen Camry in Akure

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber and recovered a stolen Toyota Camry following a midnight attack on residents of Eleyewo Quarters, Akure.

The incident occurred around 1.30 a.m. on Friday when four armed men allegedly attacked two residents, Olamiposi and Daniel Omoniyi, and dispossessed them of their vehicle.

Operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit were immediately deployed to the area after the command received a distress call.

Before the arrival of the police team, the assailants reportedly fired gunshots, injuring the victims before fleeing with the Camry bearing Lagos registration number KRD 814 HX.

A coordinated operation, carried out with the support of vigilant youths in the community, led to the arrest of one suspect and the recovery of the stolen vehicle and a cutlass.

The commissioner of police in the state, Adebowale Lawal, commended the operatives and residents for their swift response, noting that prompt information was crucial to the arrest.

The police said the arrested suspect, identified as 35-year-old Nurudeen, confessed to the crime, while efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the gang still at large.
