Police arrest robbery suspects linked to Barrister Chigbo’s murder in Abuja

The FCT Police have announced the arrest of three notorious armed robbery suspects allegedly involved in the murder of legal practitioner, Barrister Princess Chigbo Nwamaka Mediatrix. The suspects are alleged to be members of a “one-chance” criminal syndicate that has been operating in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for several years.

In a statement signed on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police Command said the arrests followed clear directives from the Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye, PSC, to ensure that all perpetrators of the heinous crime and other violent offences within the FCT are swiftly brought to justice.

Between 5 and 10 January 2026, operatives of the Command’s Scorpion Squad, led by ACP Victor Ogbeide Godfrey, tracked the victim’s mobile phone and carried out follow-up operations in the Dei-Dei, Dakwa and Dan-Tata communities in Kubwa.

The suspects arrested include Saifullahi Yusuf, 22, and Ishau Yusuf, 24—biological brothers from Kaduna State residing in Dan-Tata Community, Dei-Dei—and Minka’ilu Jibril, also known as Dan-Hajia, from Kaduna State.

Investigations revealed that on 5 January at about 5:50 p.m., Barrister Chigbo unknowingly boarded a black Volkswagen Golf 3 along the Kubwa Expressway. The suspects allegedly threatened her with weapons and attempted to extort a ransom. When she refused to comply, she was assaulted and pushed out of the moving vehicle, resulting in her death.

The suspects reportedly admitted to selling the victim’s mobile phone for ₦120,000, while police recovered several items believed to have been used in their criminal activities, including scissors, daggers, knives, a restraining chain and a plier.

The FCT Police said investigations are ongoing to apprehend a remaining suspect and uncover any additional networks linked to the syndicate.

Speaking further on the incident, CP Dantawaye commended the professionalism of the operatives and urged residents to remain vigilant, avoid boarding unregistered or suspicious vehicles, and report suspicious activities to 08032003913 or 07057337653.
