The Oyo State Police Command has arrested six suspected armed robbers and kidnappers in Ikoyi-Ile, Orire Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects were apprehended during a coordinated operation conducted around 6:00 a.m. on Saturday in the Igbo-Awe forest near Iboran village. The operation was carried out by operatives from the Ikoyi-Ile Divisional Police Headquarters, in collaboration with other security agencies and local vigilantes who provided intelligence support.
Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Adewale Osifeso, who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, said the suspects had been terrorising residents of the area before they were tracked down to their hideout.
“During the operation, six suspected key members of the armed group were arrested, and several incriminating items were recovered,” the statement read in part.
Items recovered from the suspects included one AK-47 rifle with 15 rounds of live ammunition, four empty AK-47 magazines, two mobile phones, a Nigerian Army jungle hat, an army life jacket, and a set of army camouflage uniforms.
Osifeso noted that the recovered materials indicated the suspects’ readiness to unleash violence and destabilise the community.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring public safety, urging residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movement or criminal activity to the nearest police station.
