The Osun State Police Command has arrested six suspects in connection with the killing of Olalekan Oyeyemi Ajagungbade, popularly known as Emir, in Ile-Ife and recovered a cut-to-size firearm.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, disclosed this on Monday in Osogbo, saying the arrests followed investigations into an attack in which armed men allegedly stormed Mayfair Garage, Ile-Ife, and opened fire.
Zungura said the command received a distress call on September 13, 2026, reporting the attack, which resulted in Emir’s death. He added that a fatal motor accident was also reported at Energy Filling Station along the Ile-Ife-Ibadan Road.
According to him, he directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take charge of the case. Investigations by the Homicide Section, with the assistance of the Amotekun Commandant, led to the arrest of four suspects.
The police commissioner said further investigations led to the arrest of Hammed Olalekan Dauda, also known as Jagaban, who was allegedly found in possession of a cut-to-size firearm.
He said Dauda reportedly confessed during interrogation that the firearm had been given to him by Nurudeen Alowonle. Subsequent investigations also led to the arrest of Waliu Adejare, aka Jay Jay, a personal assistant to Alowonle, in connection with the incident.
Zungura said the suspects were allegedly mobilised by Alowonle and Adeyemi Ojo, aka Sibi. The six suspects arrested are Tijani Ismail, Akinsola Ekundayo, Sijuade Moruf Oyinlola, Ayeni Adegbola Olalekan, Dauda and Adejare.
The police commissioner said the command was intensifying efforts to apprehend Alowonle, Ojo and other suspects still at large. He assured the public that investigations would continue and that all suspects would be charged to court upon their conclusion, in accordance with the law.
