Police arrest three suspected kidnappers, recover firearm in Edo

The Edo State Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers and armed robbers during a stop-and-search operation in Aviele, along Abumere by Power Line.

According to a statement by CSP Moses Joel Yamu, the Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Police overseeing Zone 5 in Benin, the suspects were apprehended by operatives of the Agbede Police Division in collaboration with local vigilante personnel on March 16, 2024, at about 4:30 a.m.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Jamilu Idris (20), Usman Shuaibu (24), and Yahuza Usman (20). A search conducted on them led to the recovery of an English-made Beretta pistol, a dagger, and an Infinix phone.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are part of a syndicate involved in kidnapping, armed robbery, and motorcycle snatching in the area.

The police have launched further investigations to track down other members of the criminal gang.
