The Ondo State Police Command has dismantled a sex trafficking syndicate operating under the guise of a job recruitment and social media firm.
Police spokesperson DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola revealed in a statement that fifteen young women were rescued from the gang’s hideout in Akure during a recent operation.
Operatives of the SWAT Unit also arrested one Jayeola Joshua of Alagbaka, Akure, along with two others linked to the syndicate.
The victims, aged between 20 and 26, were reportedly lured from different parts of the country with promises of domestic and overseas employment. They were allegedly coerced into sexual activities disguised as “relationship content” for social media.
Investigations revealed that the victims were made to send nude images and videos to paying clients. The apartment used for these activities was reportedly rented specifically for the operation, and the landlords have been invited for questioning.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, directed that the rescued women receive medical care and counseling at the Police Hospital in Akure.
