Police dismiss viral video alleging bandit attack in Ondo community

The Ondo State Police Command has debunked a viral video alleging that bandits attacked a government grader in Obatedo community, Akure North LGA of the state.

According to the command, the video being circulated on social media is old and does not represent the current security situation in the state.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the command said findings showed that the incident occurred over a month ago.

“The video in question is not recent, as it dates back over a month and does not reflect the current security situation in the state,” the statement said.

The police added that no formal complaint about the incident was reported at any police formation, describing the narrative surrounding the video as misleading.

According to the command, preliminary investigations revealed that the incident was connected to a dispute involving farmers and local authorities over land allocated to prospective investors.

“Further information obtained from credible sources indicates that the incident was not a bandit or herdsmen attack, as widely portrayed,” the statement added.

The police further explained that the destruction of the grader was believed to be linked to the disagreement and not to any form of armed attack, urging residents to avoid spreading unverified security reports capable of causing panic.
