Police engage armed robbers in Abuja, call for vigilance

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command engaged in a fierce gunfire exchange with armed robbers in the Lugbe area of Abuja on Thursday night. The incident occurred around 10 PM when the robbers blocked the Lugbe end of the Shehu Musa Yaradua Expressway, attacking and robbing innocent citizens amidst ongoing protests.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adeh Josephine, confirmed that the FCT Command responded swiftly to distress calls from residents reporting the activities of the hoodlums.

She emphasized that all medical personnel in and around the Federal Capital Territory are now on high alert for potential gunshot wound victims, in accordance with the Compulsory Treatment and Care for Victims of Gunshot Act 2017. Medical staff are reminded of their obligation to provide immediate care to such patients while promptly notifying the local police division for further investigation.

Reacting to the development, Commissioner of Police, CP Benneth C. Igweh, issued a stern warning to individuals attempting to exploit the protests for criminal activities such as armed robbery, assault, and vandalism.

He assured that stringent measures would be taken against any offenders, emphasizing that the police and other security agencies are fully mobilized to maintain law and order.

CP Igweh expressed his gratitude to the residents of the FCT for their continued cooperation and reassured them that the police are committed to protecting their rights and property during this period of unrest. He urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
