The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspects over an alleged attempt to abduct a three-year-old boy in Ogbagi Akoko, Akoko North East Local Government Area.

Disclosing the development in a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, noted that the incident occurred on March 22, 2026, after the child’s mother, Mrs Olanireti, sent him to meet his grandmother within the neighbourhood.

Trouble started when a resident raised the alarm after noticing suspicious movements involving the child, prompting immediate action from members of the community.

“The suspects were caught while attempting to escape on an unregistered motorcycle with the child, but were intercepted through the swift intervention of vigilant residents,” the statement said.

Additionally, the police indicated that the child’s grandmother and other residents prevented the suspects from fleeing before officers arrived at the scene and rescued the victim unharmed.

Commending the community, Adebowale Lawal, the commissioner of police said, “The bravery and prompt response of residents played a critical role in foiling what could have been a tragic incident.”

He also urged parents to be more watchful, advising adults to closely monitor their children and report any suspicious activities to security agencies without delay.

The commissioner further assured residents of the state’s resolve to carry out a thorough investigation and ensure that all those involved in the crime are brought to justice.
