Police foil kidnap attempt on Long Bridge, kill four suspects

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit have foiled a kidnapping attempt along the Warewa axis of the Long Bridge, killing four armed suspects in a gun duel.

The incident occurred on February 20, 2025, at about 8:30 p.m. when a white Paragon commercial vehicle, with registration number BDG 753 YH, was ambushed by gunmen at a deserted section of the road. The attackers, armed with firearms and other dangerous weapons, stopped the vehicle and robbed passengers at gunpoint.

During the attack, the driver, Morufu Adedeji, managed to open the rear door, enabling some passengers to escape. Enraged by this, the kidnappers assaulted him until he lost consciousness. Alerted by other motorists, police operatives swiftly arrived at the scene and engaged the criminals in a gunfight.

Four of the assailants were fatally wounded, while others escaped into the surrounding forest with gunshot injuries.

Security operatives recovered:

  • A locally made pistol with two cartridges
  • Two daggers
  • ₦20,000 in cash
  • A Tecno Android phone
  • A solar power bank
  • Three USB lights, suspected to be stolen property

The bodies of the neutralized suspects have been deposited at the State Hospital Morgue in Ijaiye, Abeokuta, for autopsy and further investigation.

Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, PhD, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to eliminating criminal activities in the state. He has reinforced tactical operatives at strategic flashpoints in Arepo and intensified routine patrols to ensure the safety of residents and commuters.
