The Ondo State Police Command has stepped up security monitoring across major worship centres in the state as part of efforts to strengthen safety measures and prevent security breaches.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Adebowale Lawal, carried out an inspection of several religious facilities on March 1, 2026, assessing compliance with existing security directives and evaluating safety preparedness at the locations.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, noting that the exercise aligned with the Ondo State Executive Order of 2022, which mandates the installation of Closed-Circuit Television cameras in religious and other public places.

During the tour, the police chief visited prominent worship centres, including NASFAT Central Mosque in Akure; St Stephen Anglican Church in Ipele; St Patrick’s Catholic Church in Ijebu-Owo; Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Owo; Ansarudeen Central Mosque in Owo; Celestial Church of Christ in Uso; and other religious centres across the state.

Lawal urged religious leaders to remain vigilant and adopt stronger internal security arrangements, stressing the importance of proper screening of worshippers and the installation of functional CCTV systems to support intelligence gathering and surveillance.

He also called on residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information, emphasising that safeguarding lives and property requires collective responsibility between citizens and law enforcement authorities.
