Police investigate accidental shooting of hunter in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into the tragic shooting of a hunter during an expedition in the Ajinawo area of Yewa North Local Government, Ogun State.
According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola, the incident occurred on March 23, 2025, at about 3:00 p.m. The police received a report that a hunting trip had turned fatal when a hunter, Taiwo Bolugbe, was accidentally shot.
Bolugbe was among a group of hunters in the area near Dangote Cement Company, Ibese, when the accident happened. While attempting to retrieve a hunted animal, his Dane gun reportedly slipped from his shoulder, discharged accidentally, and fatally struck him in the neck and lower jaw. Despite efforts by his fellow hunters to save his life, he succumbed to his injuries.
Five hunters have been arrested in connection with the incident, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
The Ogun State Police Command has urged the public to exercise extreme caution while handling firearms, even during hunting activities, to prevent similar tragedies.
