The Osun State Police Command is investigating allegations of unauthorized property sale and grave desecration in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State.
The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Yemisi Opalola, confirmed that a complaint was received from one Rukayat Adedoyin (née Rauf), who accused her sibling, Mutiu Rauf Okunola, of selling their family house without the knowledge or consent of other family members.
CSP Opalola stated that the suspect is currently on bail, as the alleged offence is bailable. She assured the public that the investigation is ongoing and that the police are working to resolve the matter. She also noted that if the family is unable to reach an amicable resolution, the case would be charged to court.
In a telephone conversation, Rukayat Adedoyin alleged that her brother, Mutiu Rauf Okunola, had threatened family members, creating fear and tension among them. She claimed that Okunola obtained the house documents through intimidation and subsequently sold the property, with tenants being served notices to vacate.
Adedoyin further revealed that their late mother’s remains had been exhumed and that there was an attempt to exhume their father’s remains before police officers from the Estate Division intervened on December 31, 2024. The case was later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department.
She stated, “The family is ready to go to court, where a potential court date has been set for this Thursday. The family is seeking to halt the sale of the house and recover the property.”
Adedoyin added that the exhumed remains of their mother had since been returned to their original grave.
