Police launch manhunt for driver after fatal accident in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has launched a search for the driver of a commercial bus involved in a fatal accident that claimed the life of a pedestrian, Auwalu Abdulkadir, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola, the accident occurred at Kara Under Bridge on February 21, 2025, at about 2:05 p.m.
The incident involved a Kia commercial bus with registration number LAGOS MUS 200 YE, which was traveling against traffic when one of its tyres detached while in motion. The rolling tyre struck Abdulkadir, a truck driver from Kano State, killing him instantly.
Following the accident, the driver of the Kia bus abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. Police officers later towed the bus to the station for safekeeping and further inspection by the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO). Efforts are currently underway to track down and arrest the fleeing driver.
The statement noted that a team of policemen was deployed to clear the obstruction and ensure the smooth flow of traffic. Officers from the Motor Traffic Division (MOTOPOL) also documented evidence from the scene, including taking photographs and sketching a map of the accident site. The deceased’s body has since been deposited at Real Divine Touch Mortuary in Ibafo.
The Ogun State Police Command has urged motorists to adhere to traffic regulations and ensure their vehicles are properly maintained to prevent similar incidents. The police assured the public that further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
