Police launch probe after telecom mast collapses on Ogun home

The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the collapse of a telecommunications mast belonging to IHS Company, which fell on a residential building during a heavy downpour on June 3, 2025, in Unity Estate, Alagbole, Akute area of the state.

In a statement signed by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, the incident occurred at approximately 2:39 p.m. and was reported by an eyewitness, Mr. Moses Olalere.

According to the report, the mast, situated in Ajuwon, gave way under severe weather conditions and crashed onto a nearby home. The landlord, who was inside the building at the time, sustained minor bruises and has since received medical attention. He is currently in stable condition.

In response to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, has ordered immediate sensitisation campaigns and heightened awareness across the state.

He directed Area Commanders to engage with companies operating communication masts near residential areas to assess the structural integrity of their facilities.

“The safety of lives and property remains our priority,” CP Ogunlowo was quoted as saying in the statement.

The police also confirmed that a preliminary investigation has commenced, and assured the public that updates will be provided as new developments emerge.
