Police make key arrests in Imo kidnapping, robbery cases
The Nigeria Police Force has, in a series of successful actions in Imo State, arrested several suspects linked to serious criminal activities, including kidnapping and armed robbery.
According to a press statement released on Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Imo State Police Command has recorded multiple operational successes in recent weeks. Among these is the arrest of five individuals connected to kidnapping activities in the Obinze, Avu, and Ihiagwa areas of the state.
The suspects, identified as Umaru Usman, 40, from Mauree in Sokoto State; Tukur Yau, 25, from Dawakinkudur in Kano State; Musbau Sabo, 18, from Warsaw LGA in Kano State; Abdul Ibrahim, 30, from Sokoto State; and Jubrin Idris, 35, from Sokoto State, were apprehended on August 21, 2024, in Avu. The police also successfully rescued a victim who had been abducted by the group.
In another notable operation, the police arrested 25-year-old Nwauba Alex from Ezza LGA, Ebonyi State, who was caught attempting an armed robbery near Aladinma Primary School in Owerri. The police recovered a locally made pistol, two rounds of live ammunition, and torchlights from the suspect during the arrest.
These actions are part of a broader strategy by the Nigeria Police Force to combat crime nationwide. The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, reaffirmed the force’s commitment to maintaining security, stating that both proactive and reactive measures are being employed to address and prevent criminal activities.
