Osun State Police Command said it has begun investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack on the residence of Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate, Rt. Hon. Lasun Yusuf.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Osun State Police Command, Yemisi Opalola who made this known in Osogbo said the command has received reports on the matter as well as visited the scene of the incident and had lunched manhunt for the perpetrators.
A yet- to – be identified gunmen on Sunday night attacked the residence of the LP candidate in Ilobu, Irepodun local Government Area of the State.
The gunmen reportedly shot at the building located at Oke Ima area of the town around 2am.
It was also gathered that security agents attached to the building were able to repel the attack with no one injured.
One of the aide to the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives alleged that the hoodlums might have been working for a gubernatorial candidate, saying that a car branded with the picture of the candidate was found at the scene of the attack.
Speaking with journalists, Yusuf explained that the gun shots lasted for five minutes even though there were security at his premises.
The LP chieftain said the attack might not be unconnected with his good outings at the recent governorship debate, where he called the capacity of those in the position of authorities to question on issues bordering on security and governance.
Reacting to the attack, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) said Yusuf is never a threat to Governor Gboyega Oyetola’s victory in the July 16 election.
Speaking with journalists, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr ismali Omipidan charged security agencies to properly investigate the attack and bring perpetrators to book
Omipidan who said the reaction became necessary following the allegations by the LP candidate accusing APC of the alleged attack.
He said: “Where were the security details attached to the LP candidate’s resident, where were they when attackers invaded his house? Why didn’t they repel them? This and many more questions are begging for answers.
“Lasun Yusuf is not a threat to the APC candidate. Why would they attack him, for what? I believe it is an arrangement by the complaint to divert people’s attention on his plans to perpetrate fraud during Saturday’s governorship poll”.
