Police probe illegal clinic over maternal death in Ondo

By Boye Oyeyemi –
The Ondo State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the alleged operation of an illegal medical facility in Odigbo Local Government Area following the reported death of a 28-year-old woman.
The command’s spokesman, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed that the case was reported on January 18, 2026, by a resident of the Sabo area of Odigbo, who alleged the activities of an unregistered clinic in the community.
Police said a couple, Kehinde Olawuyi, 36, and his wife, Eniola, are accused of running the illegal facility at Orita, Odigbo.
According to the report, the woman, who later died, was admitted to the facility on January 4, 2026, for childbirth, but complications reportedly arose during the process.
She was said to have been rushed to another medical centre in the area for emergency care, where she was later confirmed dead.
Preliminary findings by the police showed that the operators of the facility were not registered medical practitioners, confirming that the clinic was operating illegally. The suspects are expected to be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
The Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, warned residents against patronising unlicensed medical facilities and urged the public to report suspicious activities, assuring that all information would be treated confidentially.
