Police reaffirm ban on fireworks in Ekiti ahead of yuletide

By Boye Oyeyemi –
The Ekiti State Police Command has reiterated that the ban on fireworks remains in force as the festive season draws closer.
This was contained in a statement issued on Friday in Ado Ekiti by the command’s spokesperson, SP Sunday Abutu.
The command warned that the use, sale or public display of fireworks would lead to arrest and prosecution.
It said the restriction was necessary to prevent criminals from hiding under the cover of firecrackers to commit offences during the celebrations.
The police noted that the sound of fireworks could be mistaken for gunshots, causing panic and unnecessary security alerts.
It also stressed that fireworks pose health and safety risks, especially to children and unsuspecting residents.
The command urged parents, guardians and community leaders to enforce compliance, while calling on the public to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via 08062335577.
