The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old man, identified as Adesola Ogunrotifa, in Abuja for allegedly stealing his employer’s vehicle after abandoning her at a church service in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

The command revealed that the suspect, who had been employed as a personal driver since July 2025, was apprehended following an intelligence-led operation by detectives attached to the B Division, Akure, leading to the recovery of the stolen Hyundai saloon car.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the incident was reported on July 5, 2026, by the vehicle owner, Mrs. Remilekun, a resident of Oba-Ile, Akure.

The police said the complainant told investigators that the suspect drove her to the Christ Apostolic Church, Oke Isegun, Akure, for a church service but allegedly abandoned her at the premises before making away with the vehicle, reportedly heading towards Abuja.

“Following the report, the Command immediately launched a comprehensive investigation. Acting on credible intelligence and deploying strategic investigative techniques, detectives tracked the suspect to Abuja, where he was successfully arrested. The stolen Hyundai saloon vehicle was also recovered intact,” the statement read.

The command disclosed that the suspect had been arraigned before a competent court for prosecution, adding that the swift arrest and recovery of the vehicle underscored the effectiveness of intelligence-driven policing.

Commending the detectives for their professionalism, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Felix Ohagwu, praised the investigating team for its commitment and diligence, assuring residents that the command would continue to pursue criminal elements within and outside Ondo State.

“The Ondo State Police Command remains resolute in its mandate to protect lives and property while ensuring that offenders are brought to justice. We also urge members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities, as every genuine complaint will receive prompt and professional attention,” the statement added.
